Star of David Hanukkah Card

Star of David Hanukkah Card

I saw this card base design online (I wish I could remember where) and went to work to figure out how to make it. (No instructions were given; I’ve included instructions below on how I made mine.) The sample I saw was also a Hanukkah card; I think it would work well for a snowflake themed card as well.

The patterned paper is from a digital pack called Silver and Blue Hanukkah Paper by KlouiseDigiArt that I purchased on Etsy. The focal star is from “Menorah Medley Die Collection” from Papertrey Ink (no longer available?). I added another circle panel to the back for my sentiment which is from the “Blessed Hanukkah” stamp set from Altenew.

This card folds flat for mailing and fits in an A2 sized envelope. (The flattened card measures 4 1/4″ x 5″.)

If you care to see how I made this card base, continue reading…

***

1. Cut 6 base panels each 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ and score them along the long side at 1 1/4″, 2 1/2″, 3 3/4″, and 5″.

***

2. Cut decorative panels at 1″ x 4″. I covered every surface (inside and out) so I used 36 total panels (6 different patterns/6 each).

***

3. Add decorative panels as shown. *Note that the first scored section of the base panel has no decorative panel while the skinny tab has the 4th decorative panel “centered” along the top, bottom, and border edge. Do this for all 6 base panels.

***

4. Put tape and/or glue on back of tab/overhanging decorative panel as shown.

***

5. Fold and glue each of the 6 base panels to form square “tubes” (with decorative paper on the inside).

***

6. Flatten the “tubes” and label as shown.

***

7. Glue the matching letters/panels together. (These are plain panels for demonstration purposes. Yours will have the decorative panels on the inside…)

*Once done, all of the letters will be hidden.

*Remember, yours will have insides decorated already.

***

8. Add decorative panels to the outside. (The card can flatten to make it easier to adhere decorative panels to the card base.)

***

9. Create a mounting base for your focal panel (so you can adhere it to a corner). On my sample above, I used circles. Here, I used 2 inch squares. (I used 3 different colors so it would be easier for you to see what I am doing. You can use whatever color(s) you desire. This base will be hidden behind your focal image.)

a. Cut 3 squares (2″ x 2″).

***

b. Score 2 of them (white and gray) down the middle at 1″.

***

c. Put tape on one half of one of the scored pieces (white) and adhere it to the non-scored piece (blue) so the fold is in the center and half sticks up freely.

***

d. Put tape on one half of the second scored piece (gray) and adhere it to the non-scored piece (blue) so the fold is in the center (against the first (white) one) and half sticks up freely.

***

e. The flaps sticking up (white and gray) are what you will attach to the card. The non-scored piece (blue) is where you can attach your focal image.

***

f. You can adhere your focal panel to your mounting base.

  1. Wow! I’m impressed you figured it out with no instructions. Great job on making instructions and sharing them. Thank you. Your card is beautiful and it would definitely be beautiful as a snowflake card, too.
