Pop-Up Graduation Thank You Card

Pop-Up Graduation Thank You Card

xDSC_7229

Here is the second of the three designs I came up with for graduation thank you notes for my kids.  For this one, I used the Sizzix “Platform, Spinning 3-D” Bigz Die (#656029) designed by Karen Burniston which caused the hand-written message to pop out at the recipient when the card was opened.

Because my pop-up element was kind of big, my overall card needed to be big to accommodate it.  My card, when closed, is 5 1/2 x 5 inches.  (When the card is closed, the edges of the pop-up note line up pretty closely with the decorative panels on each side.)  If the pop-up element were smaller, the card could probably fit into an A2 sized envelope.  Instead of creating a custom envelope, I ended up using envelopes meant for cards measuring 5 x 7 which allowed room to the left to carefully position the tassel so it didn’t get all wonky when mailed.

Kraft card stock was used for the card base and tag.  This tag with the greeting was downloaded and printed from a file called “Printable Thank You Gift Tags” that I purchased from Concertina Press.

I purchased the tassels (ready-made) on amazon.  The black panel across the middle was debossed with a Darice Circle Background embossing folder.

The foiled background panel was from a file from the “Graduation Digital Paper Pack” by DeerCustomDesigns that I purchased on Etsy.  It was printed on laser printer paper with a laser printer  and foiled using  Gina K Red Velvet Fancy Foils and my mini Heidi Swapp MINC foiling machine.  (A laminator can also be used.)

The inside panels were matted on Gina K Red Velvet card stock.  The side panels are from a digital paper pack called “Thank You Papers” by AMB Illustrations that I also purchased on Etsy.

Graduation Cap Thank You Card

Graduation Cap Thank You Card

xDSC_7205.jpg

(I’m sorry I keep sharing “out of season” projects, but I’m still trying to catch up…)

In addition to all the graduation cards my kids needed to give, they also needed a few thank you notes as well.  I decided to make 3 different designs so if they all received a gift from the same person, the gift-giver wouldn’t receive 3 of the same thank you card design.

This first one was popping up all over Pinterest so I thought I’d give it a try.  The cap opens to reveal the handwritten note.  (It’s kind of a small area, so Kelly needed to write small.  She was actually able to fit more on there than I did on my sample!)

Gina K Red Velvet, black and white card stock was used.  The stamps are from the Fiskars “Monumental Moments” set and the Hampton Art set #SC0752.  Glittery Recollections brads were used as the tassel buttons on the tops of the caps.

I made the tassels from red embroidery thread and brush fringe.  (This fringe was very difficult to work with because there is one thread holding it all together, and I kept losing pieces as I tried to separate it to tie the embroidery thread around the tops.  I had pieces of red fringe everywhere!!  I felt like I was all thumbs!  Maybe if my fingers were daintier…)

HERE is the tutorial video I used to create this card.

A Few Simple Birthday Cards

A Few Simple Birthday Cards

zDSC_7280.jpg

I enjoy making cards with fancy folds, interactive elements or some other creative technique.  Sometimes, however, it’s fun to get back to basics and focus on the stamps and ink.  Here are a few simple cards I made with some stamp sets that I had purchased a few months ago but hadn’t used yet.

Gorgeous Grunge Birthday Card

xDSC_7302

(Inside: Wishing you all the best today and throughout the coming year)

This card was made with various stamps from the “Gorgeous Grunge” set from Stampin’ Up and the “Celebrate” stamp from Hampton Art.  Stampin’ Up Soft Suede and Mint Macaron ink was used.  Card stock was SU Mint Macaron, Gina K Dark Chocolate, and white.  The inside sentiment was from the “Happy Birthday to You” set by Gina K Designs.

I don’t think I’ve ever created such a “grungy” card before. It was fun, and really liked the way it came out.  I got mixed reviews from my family though.  Oh well….

Happy Birthday with Swishes of Color

xDSC_7283.jpg

(Inside: Sending you Warmest Wishes on your special day.)

This next card features an embossing folder from the Sizzix/Stampin’ Up “Celebrations Duo” set.  The “Happy” is debossed so when the swishes of color are stamped over it, the ink stays on the flat portion of the card but does not get into the indented portion.  I used a stamp from the “Tiny Textures” set from Gina K Designs to create the swishes of color.  The “Birthday” stamp is from the Gina K “Winter Block” set.  The stamp on the inside is called “Sending Wishes” by Stampendous.  Papertrey Ink Soft Stone and Gina K Blue Denim ink was used with white and Blue Denim card stock.  (For some reason, my camera can’t see that the blue ink and paper are the same color.  Hmmm….)

Cake Crazy Birthday Card

wDSC_7291

(Inside:  May your birthday be filled with love, laughter and everything that makes you happy)

This final card was made with stamps from the “Cake Crazy” set from Stampin’ Up.  The set contains a number of angled stamps in a variety of shapes and words (along with multi-step layers) so lots of different crazy cakes can be created in all kinds of color combinations.  Gina K Blue Denim and white card stock was used as well as a few sheets from “The Birthday Wishes Stack” paper pad by DCWV.  For ink, I used Gina K Wild Dandelion, Blue Denim, and Blue Raspberry.

Once Upon A Time Anniversary Card

Once Upon A Time Anniversary Card

I recently posted Peek-A-Boo graduation cards for my kids, and here is another one I made for my parents’ 55th wedding anniversary.  When you open the card, the wedding day image from the front “transforms” into a photo of my mom and dad now.

I used Gina K Lovely Lavender and white card stock along with “Fancy Swirl Foiled – Silver” card stock from The Paper Studio.  The sentiment (inside and front) was computer generated.  To create the frames and openings, I used a die from the Spellbinders “Artist Trading Cards” set (S3-208) and a We R Memory Keepers Frame Punch Board.

There is lots of shine on this card!

Class of 2017 CAS Graduation Card

Class of 2017 CAS Graduation Card

wDSC_7204

(Inside: May you celebrate your graduation remembering special memories from your past and exciting dreams for your future.  Happy Graduation.)

This clean and simple graduation card features a greeting from the “Curly Cute” set (retired?) by Stampin’ Up that was stamped with versafine onyx black ink.  The “Class of 2017” was a digital image I found online (although I am no longer seeing it there).  I found the same image on etsy (for 2018) HERE by createsvg4you.  The sentiment inside was by Northwoods Rubber Stamps.

The white panel on the front was embossed with a Sizzix/Stampin’ Up “Stripes” embossing folder.

You may recognize the elements on this card from one I recently posted:

My kids had gone through a whole bunch of cards for their friends, and we still needed more!  (I guess with three of them, there is a larger need than usual!!)  I still had the supplies out for this photo card, so I whipped up a few of these CAS cards for them to give.

This next card is similar to the cards above, so I decided to add it to this post instead of a new one:

This is the last 2017 graduation-related card I have to share.  It features the same robot that I’ve used on a few other cards that I made for my sons’ robotics club advisor who did an amazing job running the club at their school.  It just so happens that he was also a parent of one of the kids on their team, and he and his wife drove my guys (and their team) to most of the competitions for the 4 years they competed in the club.  Now that they graduated, I made the robot graduating too!

The robot was a Silhouette file that I adapted for each of the cards on which he appeared.  The cap and gown were from an svg kit called “Graduation Elements” from svgcuts.  The thank you stamp is another stamp from the “Curly Cute” set from Stampin’ Up.

Gina K Red Velvet, white and black card stock were used along with Recollections silver.
