Over the Edge Birthday Card

What do you do when your greeting panel is too big for your card? Just spill over the edge – lol!

I partially debossed the upper portion of a piece of Gina K Designs Warm Glow card stock with the “Scroll Background” embossing folder by Darice (#1216-62) and cut the bottom edge with the “English Ivy Edger Punch” from EK Success. I used my score board to add the lines between the two.

The greeting was cut with the “Happy Birthday 2” die (#1161) from Elizabeth Craft Designs. It was die cut 3 times and layered. Originally, I had adhered the greeting directly to the debossed panel, but it seemed too busy so I removed the die cuts (gotta love Un-du!!) and went with the design above. Here’s what it looked like originally:

Still not sure which way I prefer. (Of course, with Un-du, I can keep moving it back and forth without damaging my panel or die cuts until I decide- lol!)

The “smooshed” panel used to die cut the top layer of the greeting and for behind the bottom, punched edge was created with Vintage Photo, Faded Jeans, Peeled Paint, Wild Honey, and Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide inks and water. I wasn’t super thrilled with it as a whole panel, but I really like it in small doses!

With the overhanging panel, the card is now 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 and does not fit in an A2 size envelope so I created a custom envelope with my We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board (paper size: 8 3/8 and punch guide measurement: 3 3/4).

Maple Leaf Side Strip Birthday Card

This card features the die from the Poppystamps Maple Leaf Side Strip Stencil & Die set cut from one of the “smooshed” panels I created a few days ago.

The “happy” was cut with the Walter & Winnie “In a Word: Happy Cutaway” die (no longer available), and I used the Stampin’ Up “Cheese Cloth” background stamp (retired) and GKD Kraft ink to add some texture. (I had cut and stamped several of these when I created my “Autumn Birthday with Smooshed Background” card.)

I heat embossed the “birthday” with a stamp from the Spellbinders STP-002 stamp set and American Crafts Zing! Brown Sugar embossing powder and punched it out with the Stampin’ Up Word Window punch (retired).

The inside sentiment (with a fun font!) is from the “Happy Birthday Collection” stamp set (CS072) from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

The green paper is from the Momenta Paper Pad Lot# 0005593, and Papertrey Ink Fine Linen and heavy weight black card stock was also used.

Rusty Hinge and Gathered Twigs Distress inks and Wild Honey Distress Oxide ink were used for the “smooshed” strip of leaves.

Autumn Leaves

I recently made several “smooshed” panels in autumn colors and used one to die cut a leaf and the greeting on this card.

The leaves were die cut with the Tim Holtz “Tattered Leaves” bigz die by Sizzix. These leaves are fairly large; this card is 5×7 inches.

The inks used for the “smooshed” panel were Rusty Hinge and Gathered Twigs Distress inks and Wild Honey Distress Oxide ink.

In addition to the “smooshed” panel, paper also came from the Recollections “Union Square” paper pad. The Copper card base is from Cardstock Warehouse.

You can find the greeting in the “Miniature Type” stamp set by Clearly Besotted and was stamped with GKD Chocolate Truffle Amalgam ink.

I untwisted a piece of jute and tied one of the strands on the “smooshed” leaf stem.

Autumn Birthday with Smooshed Background

This card started with no plan at all! I figured I’d slop some ink down on the craft mat on my desk and see where that led me….

I ended up with several panels made by “smooshing” Rusty Hinge and Gathered Twigs Distress inks, Wild Honey Distress Oxide ink, and water on heavy weight white card stock panels. The key to layering colors (if you want to see all the individual colors) is to make sure the ink is dry before adding the next layer. (If you add wet ink to wet ink, it blends.) I used my Tim Holtz heat tool to speed the drying along before adding more layers of ink.

Once the ink was layered, I spritzed the panels with a Walnut Stain distress marker and Spritzer tool.

I used one of the panels for the background on this card and will share the cards I made with the other panels shortly.

The “happy” greeting was cut with the Walter & Winnie “In a Word: Happy Cutaway” die (no longer available) and was stamped with the Stampin’ Up “Cheese Cloth” background stamp (retired) and GKD Kraft ink to add some interest. On that, I layered the “birthday” panel from the Stampin’ Up “Label Me Bold” stamp set (retired) and GKD Chocolate Truffle Amalgam ink.

The 1 inch leaf and 5/8 inch leaf punches are by Recollections.

The card stock used is Papertrey Ink Fine Linen card stock, Gina K Designs Charcoal Brown, and heavy weight white (for the smooshing).

As I recently mentioned, I created a BUNCH of panels when creating my Autumn Triangle Gatefold card, and here is another one of the cards I made with them.

On this sample, I used only the stitched hexagon from the “Triangle Gatefold” die set from Creek Bank Creations, the framed leaf die by Mosaic Moments, the “Fall Leaves” embossing folder by Darice, and a greeting from the”Wild Blossoms” stamp set with Charcoal Brown ink both from Gina K Designs.

To create the handmade patterned paper on all of these cards, I use a gel plate, a brayer, Walnut Stain, Vintage Photo, and Wild Honey Distress Oxide inks, spritzes of water, the Stampendous! Decor Cling Leaves Rubber Stamp – DCR101, and the French Script background stamp from Stampin’ Up (retired?).
