It’s Your Birthday – Golf Themed Shaker Card

It’s Your Birthday – Golf Themed Shaker Card

(inside sentiment:  have a ball)

This 5×7 card was made with Gina K Peach Bellini and white card stock and a piece of designer paper called “Golf” (#1311) from the “On the Edge Sports” line by Ronni.  The greeting was stamped with Gina K Moonlit Fog ink.  I’ve had the greeting stamp for quite some time.  Unfortunately, there is no information on the stamp to indicate who made it, and I don’t remember where I purchased it.

I made a “recessed window” using one of the “A2 Matting Basics B” Spellbinders dies and a craft knife. (See the tutorial HERE by Theresa Momber.)  Dies from the same set were used to create my peach frame and the cut out portion of my card front.  I added sequins and microbeads to the recessed panel and covered it with a piece of acetate to create my shaker panel.  This was adhered behind the cut out portion on my card front.  I used foam tape (two layers) to adhere the front panel to my card base.

Fore Your Birthday – Golf Themed Birthday Card

Fore Your Birthday – Golf Themed Birthday Card

(inside: wishing you a day filled with good things)

One of the things I really enjoy is browsing at designer scrapbook paper.  There are so many gorgeous patterns and prints available.   There was a scrapbook supply store called “Scrap and Beads” in Burlington, NJ that I visited every now and again, but unfortunately, the store is no longer in business. The store was filled with gorgeous paper that you don’t see in the big box stores near me.   On one of my visits, I found an amazing sheet of golf paper that I used to make this birthday card.

My card base (5×7) and mats are Gina K Edible Eggplant card stock.  The designer paper with the golfer image is called “Hole in One” (H10-1295) from the “Tee Off” collection by Moxie.  I also used some “Celtic Plaid” from the “Sham Rock Collection” by Reminisce.  The greeting is from the “On The Links” stamp set by Papertrey Ink, and the inside stamp, Wishing Good Things, is by Hero Arts.  Both were stamped with Gina K Edible Eggplant ink.  The golf bag charm was purchased online at AliExpress (HERE) and was attached with a circular clip and brad from my stash.

I’m Loving This Scoring Stylus – with my scoring board.

I’m Loving This Scoring Stylus – with my scoring board

scoring stylus

I just discovered a new tool that I love.  (I know…I’m not using it as it was intended, but…)

I have been busy making a BUNCH of cards (individual cards and sets) for a craft show in December.  I make my own card bases which requires a lot of scoring and folding.  I had been using a Martha Stewart Scoring Board with the bone folder/scoring tool that came with it.  After a while, my finger really started to hurt as I applied pressure to the top edge of the tool to score the card stock.  The problem is that the tool is fairly flat, and the edge digs into my fingertip with repeated use.  The other problem with this tool is that it is wearing out because it is made of plastic; I am not getting great score lines with it anymore.

ouch!

I had purchased and tried several replacement bone folder/scoring tools and had not really loved any of them. Some are too big to fit in the storage compartment on my score board.  Some have really sharp tips that cut my cardstock when I try to score it.  Some are too wide and jump out of the channels on the score board.  Others are just not real comfortable.

I was recently at the Scrapbook Expo in Somerset, NJ, and I discovered a tool for scoring that I really like – the Cricut Scoring Stylus.  It is meant to be used as an attachment for the Cricut Explore machine, but I just use it by hand with my scoring board.

(I use it for hand-scoring with a score board.)

It is so comfortable because it is smooth and shaped like a pen.  I just started using it so I cannot speak about how long it will last, but the tip is metal, so I am guessing it will last longer than the plastic tools I’ve been using.  The tip is pretty pointy if you hold it straight up and down, but if you hold it at an angle like a pen and use moderate to light pressure, it works great.  And it fits in the storage compartment of my score board along with the bone folder so it’s always right there when I need it!

I still use the bone folder to flatten my folds, but this is my new score tool of choice!

You can check it out on Amazon.com (HERE).

Golf Photo Note Cards

Golf Photo Note Cards

Golf Photo Note Cards

This card is part of a set of note cards that I made with photos I took at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania.  These were made to sell as boxed sets at the annual Ladies’ Holiday Boutique and Luncheon that will be held at the club for the members in December.  (Thanks, Mom, for inviting me!)  In addition to the hand-made cards I will be selling, I thought it would be neat to create sets of photo note cards featuring scenery from their home course.

My dad drove me around the course on a golf cart while I snapped a ton of gorgeous shots (333 photos in all!!) – thanks Dad!  The hardest part was choosing which ones to use!  I ended up using 20 shots (divided into 2 sets) which includes all of the holes on the course.  I also made two bonus cards of their clubhouse (a front and back view) to give as a gift with the purchase of a set.

While I originally thought I’d make these cards as thank you notes, I decided to omit a greeting on the front so the cards would be suitable for any type of note.  I had the cards professionally printed on white card stock at a place in Cherry Hill, NJ called dpi Copies Printing & Grahpics, Inc.  (The cards look gorgeous in real life; what a difference professional printing makes!)

I purchased boxes online from BAGS Unlimited.  They have a wide variety of sizes from which to choose, include shipping in their listed prices, and deliver quickly.

Each box contains a sheet showing thumbnails of each of the cards and which hole is featured.

I Don’t Like to Think… Jr. Legal Pad Cover

I Don’t Like to Think… Jr. Legal Pad Cover

wDSCN8817

Here is another notepad cover design I created.

The sentiment stamp on this one is called “I Don’t Like to Think Before I Speak…(RWD-107)” by Riley and Company.  The image is from an Art Impressions set distributed by Hampton Arts and sold at Michaels (Item# 10325411 – Beach Babes).  This set is made exclusively for Michaels and is not sold on the AI website.  I stamped the sentiment and image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored it with Copic Markers (chair: R05 and C4; hair: E74 and E79; drink: Y13, Y11, C1, BG10, and C1; skin: E50, E31, and E04; hat: YR15; glasses: E79) and a Sakura clear glitter pen.  The “sand” is from the “Work of Art” stamp set by Stampin’ Up, stamped with Memento Desert Sand ink.

The cover was made with white card stock.  Then I created a decorative panel and adhered it to the front.  The printed paper is called “Colorful” from the Unwritten line by reminisce.  I used this paper to paper piece her bathing suit and for one of the background panels.  I also used Gina K Blue Raspberry and Sweet Mango card stock.  The Sweet Mango panel was partially embossed with the Darice 5×7 “Stripes” embossing folder.  A piece of sheer ribbon finished it off.
