Elephant – Birthday Challenge # 3

Kevin came up with my “Birthday Challenge” #3 (as described HERE).  He has always loved “cute” elephants. He had a few favorite stuffed elephants early on, and that became his thing. I wasn’t surprised that his first card challenge for me was to make an elephant card.  Easy, right?  Not so much… he said it had to have a moving trunk…

I had A LOT of trouble getting the trunk right. I used the spinner element die from the Karen Burniston “Spinner Square Pop-up” die set to make the trunk move. This spinning mechanism is designed to have a hidden element spin out from behind a panel, but the trunk needed to stay visible the whole time and stay positioned so it looked like it was part of his head as it moved. Ugh!! I kept playing with the size, shape, and position of the trunk to get it to work. It’s not perfect, but it does move – lol!

The elephant is an altered Silhouette file by Hero Arts (design id #41591). The leafy paper is called “Grow” by American Crafts (#354800).  The balloons were cut with dies from the “Layered Happy Birthday” set by Spellbinders (#S5-345).  The inside sentiment is from the “Flower Builders” stamp set from Gina K Designs (retired?).

The paper I used on the front is American Crafts #35322 and GKD Tranquil Teal, and the Happy Birthday die was unbranded.  I used two “Rectangle Infinity Dies” by Hero Arts for the layers.

If I were to do this again, I’d make the front coordinate better with the inside…

Happy Birthday Shaker Card

I enjoy making (and shaking!) interactive shaker cards.  For this one, I glued a birthday greeting die cut and a stitched frame die cut to a piece of acetate and adhered this panel to two (layered) pieces of fun foam cut with the same frame die.  This panel was placed over loose sequins and adhered to the card front.  A pretty basic design, but fun to play with!

Pop-up Flower Pot Birthday Card

I used Karen Burniston’s “Flowerpot Pop-up” die set (#1010) to create this pot with flowers that pops up when the card is opened.  The die set comes with the dies to create the pop-up element, the pot, the flowers, the leaves, and a bee (which I did not use on this card).  These dies can be used to create either a flat flower pot design or the pop up design.  Theme, colors and size are up to you. (The bigger the card, the bigger/taller you can go with the bouquet.  My card is 5″ x 7″,  but an A2 size card will work if you are careful with how position your flowers and leaves.)

You can see Karen’s assembly tutorial HERE.  This card is not hard to make; there is just a lot of die cutting if you want a full pot – lol!

This card folds flat for mailing.

The water color patterned paper (#PPR3507) is by love nicole.  I also used Gina K Designs Grass Green, Warm Glow, Edible Eggplant, and Powder Blue card stock.

The Round Happy Birthday die used on the front is unbranded, and the stitched Nesting Square Parentheses inside can be found at Printable Heaven.  The sentiment is called “Special Day Wishes” (#573F) by DRS Designs and was stamped with GKD Edible Eggplant ink.

Awesome At Any Age – Photo Collage Pop-up Card

It seems like only yesterday…

My triplets turned 21 today.  Happy Birthday, Kelly, Kevin, and Keith!  These fun (A2 sized) cards were made with the Karen Burniston “Photo Collage Pop-up” die set and a bunch of (mini) photos of Kelly, Kevin, and Keith when they were younger.

This is what the front of the cards looked like.  Kelly’s is on the left, and the boys’ is on the right.

The card fronts were made with digital paper from MelanieBrittDigitals that I purchased on Etsy.  The “21” was created with the harrington font and cut with my Silhouette.  The greeting is from the “Itty Bitty Birthdays” stamp set from Stampin’ Up and was stamped with Gina K Designs Peach Bellini or Ocean Mist mixed with Soft Stone ink.  The small happy birthday stamp on the inside is from “Newton’s Birthday Bash” by Newton’s Nook Designs.  I ordered the photos (as 4×4 collage sheets – the 3 x 3 pic option) from Walgreens.  (HERE is a video showing how to order the collage photos.)
