Birds of a Feather Center Step Card (and a few more scenic cards)

Birds of a Feather Center Step Card (and a few more scenic cards)

wDSC_7336.jpg

Over the years, I have purchased quite a few 12″ x 12″ paper pads and packs.  Usually, I buy them for a sheet or two that I need for a particular project, and then the rest of it gets filed away and forgotten about.  I recently pulled a bunch of them out and found some great pieces that made nice card panels.

The above 5″ x 7″ center step card was made with paper called “Birds of a Feather” by 7 Gypsies.  The printed panels were matted on Gina K Faded Brick card stock and a heavy weight ivory card base.  I love the pattern and rich colors on this paper!

To create the greeting, I used the “Thank You 2” die by Cheery Lynn Designs and black card stock.  The background paper was so busy which made it difficult to see the die cut by itself so I created a banner for behind it from Gina K Faded Brick card stock and ink, a leaf stamp from the Stampers Anonymous “Falling Leaves” set by Tim Holtz, and the Banner Triple Punch from Stampin’ Up.  (As you can probably tell from a few of my recent posts, I am loving the “texture” created when you stamp a tone-on-tone image randomly to cover the card stock panel!)

Here is the template for a 5×7 inch center step card:

I had several sheets of this paper so I made a few more without a greeting so they would be suitable for a variety of occasions and ready to go as needed.

Here are a few more step cards I came up with using paper from a pad called “Lake Life Is Best” by Paper House.  (The Father’s Day stamp is from a set called “Father’s Day Innies & Outies” by My Sentiments Exactly.)

These cards practically make themselves; the scenic paper does all the work!  I kind of feel like I’m cheating, but I have SO MUCH paper like this (with a large pattern or scene), and using it on this step card design is a great way to put it to good use.  And you can add as much or as little to the scene; I think it always looks “finished” and awesome.

Baseball Birthday Shutter Card

Baseball Birthday Shutter Card

My son has a fall birthday, and he’s really into baseball (he will be working for the Milwaukee Brewers’ after he graduates in May), so I made this card for him.  The Modsquad Challenge this week is “Fall Fest” where we are to create whatever comes to our minds when we think of fall.  I loved the rich, fall colors of these papers, and in my house, playoff baseball is definitely a fall thing!

This shutter card features paper called “Baseball/Softball Diamond” from a kit called “Rookie of the Year” by Karen Foster.

I matted each of the printed pieces with some open stock card stock called “Merlot” that I purchased at AC Moore.  (There is no brand name on the label.)  The card base is Recollections Kraft.

The circle pieces were cut with dies from the “Standard Circles Large and Small” sets from Spellbinders.  The stamps are from Crackerbox Palace (here and here) stamped with Tim Holtz Walnut Stain distress ink.  I inked the edges of the greeting and sentiment panels with this ink as well.

I left a little space under the “have a ball” stamp for a signature.  The space on the back panel that does not show when the card is closed is big enough to hide a gift card or monetary gift (attached with removable adhesive) if desired.

This card is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches when folded.

Graduation Cap Thank You Card

Graduation Cap Thank You Card

xDSC_7205.jpg

(I’m sorry I keep sharing “out of season” projects, but I’m still trying to catch up…)

In addition to all the graduation cards my kids needed to give, they also needed a few thank you notes as well.  I decided to make 3 different designs so if they all received a gift from the same person, the gift-giver wouldn’t receive 3 of the same thank you card design.

This first one was popping up all over Pinterest so I thought I’d give it a try.  The cap opens to reveal the handwritten note.  (It’s kind of a small area, so Kelly needed to write small.  She was actually able to fit more on there than I did on my sample!)

Gina K Red Velvet, black and white card stock was used.  The stamps are from the Fiskars “Monumental Moments” set and the Hampton Art set #SC0752.  Glittery Recollections brads were used as the tassel buttons on the tops of the caps.

I made the tassels from red embroidery thread and brush fringe.  (This fringe was very difficult to work with because there is one thread holding it all together, and I kept losing pieces as I tried to separate it to tie the embroidery thread around the tops.  I had pieces of red fringe everywhere!!  I felt like I was all thumbs!  Maybe if my fingers were daintier…)

HERE is the tutorial video I used to create this card.

Sympathy Shutter Card

I have seen quite a few variations of shutter cards online, but one style I really liked was done by Sandy Allnock where there is room for an “inside sentiment” or a handwritten message.  (HERE is her video tutorial.)

wDSC_6824

For this card, I used 2 sheets from the Recollections “Habitat” signature paper stack for my decorative panels and mats.  The card base is Recollections kraft card stock.  (The base is 12 inches wide, so a 12″ x 12″ sheet is needed.)

Here is the template for the card base:

The circle panels were cut with dies from the Spellbinders Large and Small Standard Circle Dies sets.

The stamp for the greeting on the front is from the Stampin’ Up “Thoughts and Prayers” set and the inside message is from the “A Beautiful Life” set from Gina K Designs.  Both were stamped with versafine vintage sepia ink.

The finished card, when folded, is 41/4 x 5 1/2 and fits in an A2 sized envelope.

I had a scrap of the patterned paper left over so I made another quick card with it.

Center Easel Birthday Card

Center Easel Birthday Card

(Inside: wishing you a day filled with good things)

I know it’s September, and I’m feeling like fall colors and patterns are more appropriate, but as I mentioned in my last post, I am “a bit” (big time understatement!) behind with posting so I have a card to share today (finally!!) that I made in the spring….

This card has a panel that props up like an easel to reveal the greeting.  It’s a great design for showing off beautiful printed paper (either store bought or handmade).  The card is flat when “closed” for easy mailing.

wwDSC_6871

My card features printed paper called “Blossom” by American Crafts (#340303) along with Stampin’ Up Mint Macaron  and white card stock.  The flowers were cut with a Sizzix Originals die called “Flower Layers #3” and embellished with some thin, white ribbon and some pieces of a small pearl spray I purchased at Hobby Lobby (DIY Wedding Department).

The greeting stamp is from the “Frame & Flowers 2” set by Gina K Designs.  The inside sentiment is by Hero Arts and was stamped on a panel cut with the EK Success “Real Estate Sign” label punch.  Both were stamped with Stampin’ Up Mint Macaron ink.
