Robot Thank You Card

Robot Thank You Card

Robot with Sweatshirt DSCN7288.jpg

My sons are in the Robotics Club at their high school, and this year they were given team sweatshirts by the Grandmother of one of their team members, which she had personalized with the club name on the front and their team name on the back.  This is the card I made for “Zach’s Nana”… THANK YOU!!!

The robot and the sweatshirt he is wearing were both cut with my Silhouette from files I purchased online from the Silhouette store.  Since I wanted to include the lettering she had put on the sweatshirts, I used the “Print and Cut” feature of the Silhouette software.  I used the “fill color” option to color the sweatshirt image with the gray and added my type in white.  I would have loved to have cut the letters, but they were way too small!

The gear-print background paper is from a digital paper set called “Steampunk Papers” that I purchased HERE on Etsy from a store called Digital Scrap.  The gray circuit board strip (which I seemed to have adhered upside down – oops!) was also purchased on Etsy (HERE).  It is called “Circuit Board” and is from a store called The Art Box Designs.  The graph-like paper is from the DCWV “Essentials” 6×6 printed paper pack.  The greeting was stamped with Gina K Blue Denim ink with the “Thanks” stamp from the Gina K Designs “Vertical Greetings” stamp set.  A bit of the Gina K Blue Denim cardstock was used to add a touch of color.  The card base is also blue denim.

The cool metal gear embellishments are from a set called “Mini Gears” in the Tim Holtz Idea-ology line.

This is the second card in the series of Robotics Thank You Notes I needed to make.

The first one, called “Are We There Yet?” (shown below), was for my sons’ robotics teacher/coach who drove my guys (and their team) to all of the competitions last year.  It was originally posted on my StampTV page (sadly, this site is no longer active.) and features the same robot.  All of these elements were cut with my Silhouette except for the car which was cut with a Sizzix die.

With 2 more years of Robotics to go, this cute robot may find himself on another card or two, and he will definitely embellish the Robotics scrapbook pages I make for my sons!

Snowman Shaker Thank You Card

Snowman Shaker Thank You Card

Snowman Shaker Card bDSCN6959.jpg

I recently saw a video tutorial by Theresa Momber making a Recessed Window Card.  She showed how to make the recessed window using a Spellbinders die and a craft knife, and I thought this recessed window card could be easily adapted to make a shaker card.

After I created the recessed window and inserted my stamped panel, I simply added my “shakers” and taped a piece of acetate (cut slightly larger than the window) over the recessed window.  I then cut a frame (using the same size die that I used to create the window) and adhered it over the acetate and window panel.  For the card above, I created a second frame with the patterned paper (with the next larger sized die) and adhered it on the blue frame.  The whole thing was attached to a card base with 4 small pop dots in the corners.  (I used to use lots of pop dots to create the enclosed window to keep in the shakers.)

To create the snowman panel, I used stamps from the following Gina K Designs stamp sets:  Fabulous Holiday Fillers, Let’s Talk, Winter Cheer, and Fabulous Frame Fillers.  I stamped the images using Memento Tuxedo Black and used Gina K Blue Denim ink (and masks) to sponge the background. The snowflakes (hard to see) were stamped with Color Box Frost White pigment ink, although I’m not real happy with the way they came out.  (Heat embossing or versamark resist may have been better.)  I added color to the snowman with Copic Markers B39, B95, and Y17.  Spellbinders Classic Squares (Large) dies were used to make the recessed window and the frames around it.  The printed paper I used is “Winter Freeze” by Melissa Frances along with Gina K Blue Denim and Pure White card stock. To photograph the card, I rubbed the acetate with a piece of wool to build up a little static to make the sequins “stick” to appear to be shaken around; they usually sit on the bottom!

Chalkboard Thank You Card

Melanie Muenchinger recently posted a tutorial on the Chalkboard Technique on stamptv, and I thought I’d give it a try.

This card is being entered in the StampTV MIUM Challenge – Thank You, where the challenge is to make a 4″ x 4″ Thank You Card.   (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)

It is also being entered in the Mod Squad Challenge – Thank You.  For this challenge, the thank you card could be any size.   (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)

This card was made using all products by Gina K Designs.  I created the chalkboard look with black card stock and white pigment ink.  The mini snowflake frame is from the “Winter Blocks” set (retired?).  I masked a portion of the frame to stamp the greeting from the “Lots of Lines” set.  The long, straight line under the cord is from the “Perfect Plaids” set (retired?).  The printed paper is from Winter Cheer 6″ x 6″ Paper Pack.  I finished it off with silver cording.

Since I’ve never used stamps from the Winter Blocks set, I am also entering this card in the NBUS (never-before-used-schtuff) Challenge at djkardkreations.com. http://www.djkardkreations.com/2015/01/happy-new-year-2015-nbus-challenge-3.html

This winter thank you card was made with the Cottage Cutz Skating Penguin die.  The background was stamped with versamark and heat embossed with white embossing powder using the Hampton Arts Double Vision Ditto stamp (retired?).  The flag was also heat embossed in white using a stamp from the “Fabulous Frame Filler” stamp set by Gina K Designs.  Stampin’ Up dazzling diamonds glitter was used to add sparkle to the ice (which is hard to see in the photo).

“Shore” Grateful Thank You Card

“Shore” Grateful Thank You Card

Shore Grateful Thank You Card bbDSCN6307

This thank you card was made for friends who took my sons with them to their shore house for a weekend.  While there, they went crabbing which they really enjoyed.

This card is being entered in the Perfectly Rustics Design Challenge No. 37 – Sentiment (Not Birthday). The focus of this challenge is the sentiment on the card, but NO HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiments are to be used in this challenge!  They want us to think outside of the standard (most commonly used sentiment) and come up with something different than Happy Birthday.  My card is a thank you card with “I’m Shore Grateful!” as the sentiment to reflect the shore theme of the card and the actual purpose of the note. (http://perfectlyrustics.com/2014/12/01/prdc-37-sentiment-not-birthday/)

I had seen a card done by Carole Renneker with this technique to create the look of water, and I was excited to try it for this project.  Click HERE to see how it is done.

The paper I used for the card front and the panel behind the “water” is from the K&Company paper pack shown below.  The name of the pack (TC Travel Specialty Paper) is in really small print in the lower right hand corner.

I used Gina K Blue Denim card stock for the card base and the second layer of the top panel, and I also used scraps of brown and red from the Authentique Seasons:  Autumn 6×6 paper pack for the greeting panel, anchor and wave swirl.  The stamps I used for the fish, crabs and greeting were from the Gina K Designs “Fishing You The Best” mini stamp set and were stamped with gina k faded brick ink.  I used the Spellbinders Superelipse die for the frame, although if I had to do it again, I’d choose a different shape since these dies don’t nest well, and I had to use my Silhouette to create the inner mat frame on the blue piece.  For the wave swirl and anchor, I used dies from the Spellbinders Nautical Frame and Accents set. I hand-cut the crabs and fish.  All the edges were inked with gina k dark chocolate ink.  The netting is from AC Moore.  And I used blue LA Looks hair gel for the water.

Here are a few close-ups:
