Hanging Nativity Charm Christmas Card

This project was made with the “Hanging Charm Pull Tab” die set from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

In addition to the pieces to create the card base, the die set also includes a few small dies to create some charms, but for this card, I found a small nativity die that fit in the frame perfectly.  It is called “Little Bits Nativity Christmas Die” from Taylored Expressions.  (The die measures 1 1/4 by 1 1/4 inch.)

To create the die cut, I pounced Gina K Warm Cocoa ink onto brown card stock (from the Recollections “Coffee and Cream” heavy weight card stock pack) with a leaf stamp ( from the Tim Holtz “Falling Leaves” set) and cut 2 of them so I had a thicker charm with a front and back.

This is what the card looks like before the tab is pulled:

The card stock is (the back of)  “A Christmas Story – Twilight Snowflake” by Reminisce, a sheet from the Love Nicole “Mistletoe & Holly” 12 x 12 paper pad, and Gina K Prickly Pear.  The A2 sized card base is the same brown that was used to make the nativity die.

The greeting on the front (which is hidden until the tab is pulled to pop up the frame) is from the “Holiday Frame” stamp set by Gina K Designs, and the inside sentiment is from “Christmas Blessings” by Our Daily Bread.  Both were stamped with Gina K Dark Chocolate ink.  I used a Spellbinders Classic Oval die to frame the greeting.

I used my crop-a-dile and some eyelets to create the hole on the charm and for the pull tab.  I accidentally grabbed 2 different tan colors for the eyelets (oops!), so I colored them with Copic Marker E47 so they would look the same.  The charm was hung with clear, nylon thread.  Some jute twine finished it off.

The Modsquad Challenge this week is “Non Traditional Christmas Colors” where we are to use non traditional colors on our cards; no red, green, silver, or gold.  Anything else is good.  (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)

Over at the Die Cut Diva’s, the challenge this month is “Winter Time” where we are invited to share our winter-themed cards and projects.  In addition to the theme, all cards/projects must be made using at least one die cut or embossing folder (using any die cut machine including Cameo and Cricut machines).

Nativity Box Card

Nativity Box Card

This beautiful box card was made from an svg file from the “Yuletide Box Cards” svg kit from svgcuts and my Silhouette electronic die cutting machine.  A tutorial VIDEO is provided to show you how to assemble the pieces once they are all cut out.

I loved the sample shown on their site and decided to create mine the same way.   I used Cor’e dinations Bright White textured card stock, a Cuttlebug (Anna Griffin) Matelasse border embossing folder, and an adhesive rhinestone by Recollections.

There is room on the back for a stamped or hand-written message.  I used a stamp from the “Peace and Joy” set by Gina K Designs and stamped the sentiment in GK Moonlit Fog ink.  I created a frame around my sentiment panel with my We R Memory Keepers Frame Punch Board.

This box card folds flat for mailing but is not a common size.  (The card measures approximately 6.25 x 5.75 inches when folded flat.)  The download includes an svg file to create a custom envelope and will require a trip to the post office to mail.

Gold Foiled Reindeer Card

The Merry Christmas Reindeer die is by Gina Marie Designs (retired?) and was cut from a toner sheet that I foiled with Gold Thermoweb Deco Foil.  To create the toner sheet, I created a solid rectangle and printed it on my laser printer.  After it was foiled, I carefully positioned the die in the center so I could use what was left of the rectangle as the mat behind the ivory panel.

The card stock I used is Warm Cocoa and Kraft from Gina K Designs and the ivory from the Recollections Coffee and Cream heavy weight card stock pack.  I used the Sizzix/Stampin’ Up Stripes embossing folder (retired?) on the panel behind the die cut.

Because the paper I use in my laser printer is only 32 lb. paper and not card stock, it is pretty flimsy so I cut another die cut from the Warm Cocoa card stock and layered them.  The added thickness really helps the die cut stand out and makes it look like a piece of metal.

Paint Brush Santa Ornament and Card

Paint Brush Santa Ornament and Card

As I mentioned in my last post, I have been creating holiday ornaments that can be used as embellishments on cards. The recipient can choose to either leave it on the card or can remove it to hang on a tree if desired.  I had seen these Santa ornaments on Pinterest and thought I’d give them a try.  (I used thinner paint brushes.)

Here is the ornament by itself:

The ornament is attached to the card with a ribbon and can easily be removed.  Re-tie the bow, and the card can be displayed without the ornament.

I used my We R Memory Keepers 1-2-3 Punch Board to create a box-like envelope that was then placed in a padded mailing envelope.  Unfortunately, these cards are quite bulky and will either need to be hand delivered or mailed as a package.

Reindeer Ornament and Card

Reindeer Ornament and Card

I thought it would be fun to create holiday ornaments that can be used as embellishments on cards. The recipient can choose to leave the ornament on the card or can remove it to hang on a tree if desired.  (The tricky part was to come up with a card design that worked both with and without the ornanent!)  I came up with a few different ornaments/card designs.  This first one has a yarn and die cut reindeer ornament.

Here is the card without the ornament:

For the A2 card base, I used Recollections Brown heavy weight card stock from the “Coffee and Cream” pack .  The patterned paper was from the Recollections “Cozy Lodge” Christmas paper pack (retired?) and a piece of “Wooden Fence” (#154484) by The Paper Studio (Hobby Lobby).

The greeting is from the “Coffee Cup Tags” stamp set from Hero Arts, and the inside sentiment is from the “Joy of Christmas” set from Art Impressions.  These were stamped with (and all the edges were sponged with) Gina K Dark Chocolate ink.  The greeting panel was cut with dies from the Spellbinders Classic Ovals large and small sets.

The ornament was made with a cut file called “Cute Reindeer Christmas” (design ID# 104632) by Studio Ilustrado that I purchased in the Silhouette Store.  I used more of the  Recollections Brown heavy weight card along with Kraft card stock.  The pieces were cut multiple times and layered.  I pounced Gina K Warm Cocoa ink with a leaf stamp (from the Tim Holtz “Falling Leaves” stamp set) all over the face and antlers and then inked the edges.  I think they kind of look like wood with the texture and thickness.

For the body, I wrapped yarn (Lion Brand “Heartland – Sequoia #126) around heavy weight card stock that I had cut with Spellbinders Circle dies.  I also used a rusty bell, 7mm wiggle eyes, a 10mm pompom, and some jute twine.

Here is a curly version I made with twelve, triple-loop bows glued on the yarn-wrapped body panel.

The head was attached to the body with a brad. This spot of metal “sticks” to a hidden magnet behind the greeting piece making it easy to attach or detach the ornament as desired.
