Faux Water Colored Flowers in Pink

Faux Water Colored Flowers in Pink

I love the look of water coloring, but sadly, I am not really very good at it.  So I fake it!

For my faux water coloring, I took a few solid image floral stamps (from a set of stamps I found in a “ms. sparkle & co.” bin at Joann Fabrics a while back), inked them up with Memento Lilac Posies ink, spritzed them with water, and then stamped them on water color paper.  (I didn’t use much water so the effect on my finished card is subtle.)

After the images dried, I stamped over them with some line art images (from “Sunshine Daisy Flowers” set by Forever in Time) which added definition without covering up the water colored effect.  These two sets do not really match up at all, but I was really pleased with the outcome when they were layered.

I didn’t have a stem stamp (this is a card/lesson I prepared for my class, and I was limited to the stamp sets I had available for class use), so I painted those by hand with Memento Bamboo Leaves ink, some water, and a brush.

The leaves were from a multi-step stamp set (unbranded?), and I chose to stamp just the “middle step” stamp.  No water was used to stamp the leaves, but I thought the sketchy look of that stamp seemed to fit with the rest of the card.

As I mentioned, I didn’t use much water for my sample above.  Here is a look at what the flower stamp looks like (without the layered scribble stamp) with water and without.

Diagonal Split Panel Wedding Card

Diagonal Split Panel Wedding Card

DSC_2032ww

I came across this fun technique that features offset angles and some patterned paper to create an interesting, layered background panel.

Here is a video tutorial on how to do this technique, although I changed mine up a bit by matting my finished panel and changing the angle/measurements of my cuts.  I’ve also seen variations where the solid panels are popped up with foam tape and where the center portion is hand-stamped.

I used Bazzill “Whirlpool” along with black and heavy weight white card stock.  The patterned paper is called “B&W Wedding Words” by the Paper Studio.  I just love the dies from the “Shadow Box Collection – Mr. & Mrs.” set by Creative Expressions!

Here are two more cards I made using this technique:

90th Birthday Spinner Card

90th Birthday Spinner Card

90th bday spinner card DSC_2522w

I made this card for my father-in-law who turned 90 this past summer and another one for my dad who turned 80.  Happy Birthday, Dad and Dad!

This card has a spinner pop-up element on the inside that was made with a die from the “Spinner Square Pop-Up” die set (#1042) by Karen Burniston.  There is a video tutorial that I found helpful in assembling this card.  (I also found a video for making this type of card without the die set in case you are interested.)

This set contains the spinner/pop-up die along with some decorative squares, a border, and photo corners.  There is no theme to this set which makes it very versatile but also requires additional supplies and more thinking/planning – lol!!.  (The cake and greeting on the front and the numbers/balloons and stars on the inside did not come with this set.)

Here is the inside of the card:

I made the number balloons by cutting off the balloons (of a balloon die cut) from their strings and replacing them with the number die cuts.  (I  made “80” balloons for my dad’s card.)  I added these to a die cut star that I attached to the swinging arm element hiding behind the sentiment panel.

The patterned paper I used came from two digital paper packs I purchased on Etsy:  “Celebration Masculine” by JLaurieStudios and “Birthday Party Boy” by POPprintonpaper.  I also used Gina K Designs Sweet Corn, Core’dinations Valentia, and white card stock.

I used several birthday-themed dies to complete my card design:  The Birthday Cake die set (unbranded – looks like this one one but smaller?), Sizzix Happy Birthday 3-D Drop-ins Thinlits Dies (Stephanie Barnard), Stitched Nesting Stars (unbranded), Numbers (unbranded), and Balloons (unbranded).

The sentiment was computer generated.  I was planning to use one of the stamps from the “Tucked In: Birthday” mini stamp set from Papertrey Ink, but both ended up being too big for the panel on which they were to be stamped.  (I should have checked that before creating the card!)  After a brief panic, I decided to type it instead.  In this way, I was able to adapt/combine parts of both of those messages for my sentiment.

A Few Quick Cards to Share…

A Few Quick Cards to Share…

xxDSC_1340.jpg

I was cleaning my craft room recently and came across a few quick cards I had made a while back (and had kind of forgotten about!).

For this one, I embossed a piece of brown card stock with the Cuttlebug “Thanks” embossing folder (#37-1134) and then rubbed “Walnut Brown” Viva 3D-Stamp Paint over the whole panel.  Love, love, love the rich, metallic shine!

I cut a rectangle window from the embossed panel and another rectangle for the greeting (PSX E-2266) with dies from the Spellbinders “A2 Matting Basics” (A & B) die sets.  Gina K Designs Dark Chocolate ink was used for the greeting panel along with a Vintage Photo distress marker and a Ranger Distress Marker Spritzer Tool for the splattered dots.

For this next one, I added Gina K Designs Honey Mustard ink and water to my craft mat and dipped/dragged white card stock through it.  Then I used a paint brush to tap/splatter some Dark Chocolate ink and water over the panel.  I sponged the edges and stamped the leaves and greeting from the Momenta “Nature Set” (lot #0005702) with Dark Chocolate ink.  This panel was layered on another piece of white card stock and a Dark Chocolate base.

For these, I let the patterned paper do all the work…  I used portions of a piece of Recollections “Thoreau Flowers” (#505802) paper along with Stampin’ Up Tip Top Taupe and either Peach Ballini or Edible Eggplant card stock from Gina K Designs.

The birthday stamp is from the “Birthday Bash” set by Fiskars.  The greeting on the second one is from the “Various Verses” set (retired?) by Gina K Designs.  Both greetings were stamped with SU Tip Top Taupe ink.

Tropical Birthday Wishes

Tropical Birthday Wishes

ccDSCN7696

(a blast from the past…)

The tropical scene on this 5 x 7 card was inspired by Theresa Momber’s “You & Me Card Making Tutorial” from her blog.

The palm tree stamp is by All Night Media. (I can’t take credit for the details on this image; the stamp did all the work!  I just ran a green and brown marker over the fronds and trunk.)

ALL NIGHT MEDIA PALM TREE STAMP

The sentiment, stamped on vellum, is from the “Birthday Label” duo by GKD.  I needed a shorter sentiment, so I masked the end half and just used the birthday wishes part of the stamp.

This project was originally posted in my StampTV gallery on July 2, 2014.  (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)

(The above description came from the original post in which I failed to include the details for the ink colors, embossing folder, paper/card stock, and additional tools and products used.)
