Easter Tulips – Center Step Card

Easter Tulips – Center Step Card

Easter Tulip DSCN9822 LR11- - Copy.jpg

(inside sentiment: may joy and peace surround you this Easter season)

This 5×7 Center Step Card card features images from the Stampin’ Up “Two Step Stampin’ – Terrific Tulips” set along with a greeting from the SU “All Year Cheer I” set.  They were stamped on white card stock with Gina K Designs Wild Lilac, Lovely Lavender, and Fresh Asparagus Ink.  This panel was adhered to a piece of Gina K Wild Lilac card stock.

The patterned background paper on the front is called “Lavender Lines” by Recollections.  The card base was made with Gina K Heavy Base Weight White.  I used a panel of Gina K Lovely Lavender and white card stock for the inside.  The sentiment on the inside was computer generated.  (I need to get more Easter stamps!)

I thought I’d participate in The Paper Players Challenge this week which is “Clean-and-Simple: Celebrate Spring ” so I tried not to add too much to this card.  However, I will admit that I don’t really know what CAS is exactly since the card samples from their design team vary greatly in the amount of “stuff” on the cards.  Since I feared my step card wasn’t CAS enough, I decided to try an even simpler design using the same stamped panel on just a plain white card base:

I’m still not sure it is CAS enough since the card base is so small (this is an A2 sized card) and the stamped images are so big, but this is the version I decided to submit.  I do love CAS card designs when others make them and wish I were better at them; this is something I will definitely keep working on.

Thanks for checking out my card projects!

The Die-Namites Inspiration Challenge this month is to create any project using love as the theme, and “as love is in the air, anything goes.”  Below is the inspiration photo for this challenge; I used the word “LOVE” on my project.

To participate in their challenge you need to use any die cut from Die-Namites and let it be the STAR of your design. You can use this combined with any colors, shapes, patrons, pattern papers, stamps, paints, stencils, etc.  (There is a required minimum of 9 different participants or entries on the challenge which was not met this month so there will be no prize given nor “Top 3 Favorites” chosen.)

I was not familiar with this challenge blog before Verna mentioned it in her blog post, nor did I own any of their dies.  I purchased the Flower Scroll die last week so I could participate in this challenge and have enjoyed playing with it the past few days. I created another 6×6 card using this die.

This card is also being entered in the “February Release Party Challenge – Mixing Patterns” on stamptv where we are to use at least two different patterned papers and a stamp from Gina K Designs.  You can check out the gallery of cards HERE.

The stamp I used is called “Love Is” (an incentive stamp in Jan. 2015) by Gina K Designs and was stamped with Gina K Charcoal Brown ink.

I used two sheets of patterned paper from the “French Kiss” 6″ paper pack by Glitz.  Gina K Charcoal Brown was used for the mats and card base.  Since this card was too big to create the base by folding an 8 1/2 x 11 inch piece of paper in half, I needed to create the card base with two panels that I adhered together.  (The front panel was slightly longer and was folded over the top of the back panel.  If you turn the card over, you can see the seam.)

The panels on which the floral die cut (and its “shadow”) are attached were cut using a die from the Spellbinders Decorative Labels Eight set.  I cut a panel of vellum using a die from the Spellbinders Labels Eight set and placed it under the floral die cuts to soften the background a touch to make it easier to see the flowers.  I used the same die from the Labels Eight set for the stamped panel and its shadow piece.

Adhering vellum to your project can be tricky because most types of adhesive can be seen through the vellum.  However, I discovered that applying Stick It to the back of the vellum before it is cut (so the adhesive covers the entire die cut) eliminates this problem.  (Stick It is great for adhering intricate dies to your project as well.  Check out this video to see how it works.)

With Love – Floral Heart

This 6×6 card features the beautiful Flower Scroll die by Die-Namites.

I created two die cuts using this die and Gina K layering weight Ivory card stock.  I used one of the cuts (whole) on the right side of the heart and a piece of the second one to fill in the upper left side of the heart.  (If you follow the stem out of the top of the butterfly, that is the portion of the second one that  I added.)

The heart shape was cut using a die from the “Nesting Hearts (#100384)” set by Little B.

The peach and taupe paper is from the “Four Seasons” card stock pack by DCWV.  The printed panel is from the “French Kiss” 6″ paper pack by Glitz.

The greeting is from the “Bundle of Love” stamp set by Gina K Designs and was heat embossed with versamark ink and Liquid Platinum embossing powder by Ranger.  I purchased the pearl “ribbon” by the yard at Joann Fabric and adhered the strip to the card front with glue dots.  I also cut a few of the pearls off and adhered them to the middles of the tiny flowers in the die cut.

The Die-Namites Inspiration Challenge this month is to create any project using love as the theme, and “as love is in the air, anything goes is perfect!”  Below is the inspiration photo for this challenge; I used a large, background heart on my project.

Coastal Quilt Valentine’s Day Card

Coastal Quilt Valentine’s Day Card

Coastal Quilt Valentine's Day Card zDSCN9009.jpg

Coastal style decor is a loose term to describe airy and casual seaside-style interiors and sea- and beach-inspired decorative elements. Think seashells, sand, nautical stripes and weathered wood (from the Style at Home’s design dictionary).  I used these elements and colors on my Valentine’s Day card (5×7).

The quilt was made using a die called “Quilt Stitched 4×4 Panel Die #1” by Gina Marie Designs and with digital paper I purchased from Etsy.  The kraft colored paper with the hearts is from a set called “Old Paper Love” by DigiTalesArt, and the shell and turquoise papers are from the “Coastal Cottage Papers 1” set by Tammy DeYoung Designs from the songinmyheart shop.  I used the dropper tool from my Silhouette software to create the solid colored sheets by “picking up” spots of colors from the patterns.

The hearts in the center of the quilt were cut with the “Nesting Hearts (#100384)”  dies by Little B.  The nautical elements were cut from dies from the “Nautical Frame and Accents (S5-082)” set by Spellbinders.

The greeting is a stamp from the “Gifts from the Sea” set by Gina K Designs and was stamped with Gina K Charcoal Brown ink.  A little twist of twine finished it off.

For this week’s “From the Heart” Mod Squad Challenge, we are encouraged to create a project using hearts.   (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)  I was excited when I found the kraft colored digital paper with the hearts because it looked like sand and went perfectly with the colors from the other set.  I particularly loved the hearts with the “rays” around them; they looked like little suns to me!

The MIUM Challenge over at StampTV this week is to use Kraft cardstock somewhere on our project.  Check out the gallery of projects submitted HERE.  (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)

Over at Die Cut Diva’s, the challenge this month is “Love, Marriage & Anniversaries.”  A die cut or file cut made on your machine (not store bought) must be used on your project or card.

For this week’s “From the Heart” Mod Squad Challenge, we are encouraged to create a project using hearts.  (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)

I found these gorgeous stitched heart dies called “Nesting Hearts (#100384)” by Little B, and couldn’t wait to play with them!  In addition to the heart dies, I also used a die from the “Stitched Rectangle Dies” set by Gina Marie Designs.  I used watercolor paper because I liked the texture along with Gina K Innocent Pink card stock.

The greeting is from the “Bundle of Love” set (retired?) by Gina K Designs and was stamped with versamark ink and heat embossed with Recollections Snow embossing powder.  The background patten was created with a Stampin’ Up large background stamp called “Soft Swirls” and Gina K Innocent Pink ink.

I used my buttonhole hole punch to pierce the small pink heart and then added the ribbon, although it’s hard to see the holes in the photo.
