Be Back Soon

Be Back Soon

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted anything here on my blog.  I go through “busy periods” where it seems like I have a bunch of card needs with short deadlines, and I actually start to feel stressed about getting everything done.  I also get caught up trying to “out-do” my previous projects which can tend to get very time consuming and expensive.  I really do enjoy pushing myself to try new techniques and to make cards/projects with interesting twists, but that also adds to the stress.  Strange, I know, since this is supposed to be a hobby!

This past month has been a “slow period” with very little that needed to be done.  Luckily, my mojo stuck around, and I found myself in my craft room a lot.  I decided to pull out some stamp sets that I have had for a while but have not had time to play with yet.  I forced myself to be “ok” with creating some simpler card designs.  And I must say, I have thoroughly enjoyed this past month of “low key” card making. Very relaxed, very fun, and very productive.

I guess the problem is that I had also decided to take take a little break from blogging so now I have a lot of catching up to do!  I hope to start posting again soon….

Thanks for checking out my post!

Be Strong…

Be Strong…

I was asked to create a panel for a 4×6 inch frame with the quote, “Be strong.  You never know who you are inspiring.”  She asked that I do the panel in pink, gray and white.  This is one of the samples I came up with.

This was part of a gift for someone battling breast cancer.  The woman is a school principal, and the gift-giver wanted her to have something for her desk to encourage her to stay strong.  Because the butterfly wings are off the panel a bit, she decided to use the frame she purchased without the glass.  (I didn’t have the frame when I took my photos.)

Here are the other samples I came up with from which she could choose…

The bottom two samples could be customized with the embossing folder or background stamp of choice, and the center panel with the quote could be done with different shapes (oval, heart, etc.).

Over at Die Cut Divas this month the theme is to use red or pink in your project.  A die and/or an embossing folder must also be used.

Quilled Flowers in Vase

Quilled Flowers in Vase

Quilled Flowers in Vase wDSC_4805c picasa

(inside:  May your birthday be filled with love, laughter and everything that makes you HAPPY)

I made this 5×7 card for a birthday, although with no greeting added to the front, this design could be used for a variety of occasions.

I thought I’d try the circle shaping tool from the Border Buddy set by Quilled Creations for this project.  I started with 4 inch strips for the petals.  The purple petals were made by wrapping the strips around the smallest step, and after the circle coils were removed from the tool, I pinched each one flat and then gently pushed on the ends to create the opening in the centers.  The white petals were made with the second step and were barely pushed in on the sides to create ovals.  The swirly stems and leaves were hand coiled with a basic slotted quilling tool.  The loose yellow coils were made with the Quill Ease motorized quilling tool (which I talked about HERE).

The vase was made with the Spellbinders Shapeabilities Filigree Vase D-Lites Dies.  Because the quilled flowers are 3mm thick and needed to be tucked behind the vase, I made a few quilled coils using the same size strips to put behind the vase to raise it up to the level of the flowers.  It was like using foam squares but perfectly sized for this project.

The oval frame was cut with one of the Grand Ovals dies by Spellbinders and embossed with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dot embossing folder.

The pre-cut paper strips were from a pack by Quilled Creations.  The card stock used for the vase, card base and frame was Gina K Pure Pure White and Sweet Mango.  The sentiment on the inside was from the “Happy Birthday to You” set by Gina K Designs.

Over at Die Cut Divas, the challenge this month is to make your project sentiment free.  Dies and/or embossing folders must also be used.

The challenge over at The Paper Players is “Clean and Simple: flowers” where we are to use a flower on a CAS design.

Inspiration for this card came from two places – this stamp by Rubber Hedgehog

and this card I made earlier.

I loved the champagne glass bride and groom stamp, but it was too small for my 5×7 card layout.  I modified the “clothes” from the heart shapes to fit the glasses cut from a Die-namics die set called “Layered Champagne Glass” by My Favorite Things.

The arch is from a file called “My Big Day SVG Collection” by svgcuts.  I used Recollections white and black card stock along with Gina K Metallic Silver.  The patterned paper is called “Blue Floral” by Recollections. White tulle and ribbon finished it off.

Click on the photo below to see the shine from the metallic card stock a little better.  (The white looks more gray in this light.  Sigh…)

The very first challenge over at Do-Al (1) Creatives is “Something New” which includes new car, new apartment, new year, baby, etc.  My wedding card celebrates a new life together.  Paired with the challenge topic is a blog hop so we can get to know the design team.  Pop on over and check out the inspiration by the design team and in the gallery.

Over at Die Cut Divas, the challenge this month is to make your project sentiment free.  Dies and/or embossing folders must also be used.

Over at the Mod Squad Challenge, “Show Your Love” is the theme this week.  (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)
