Eclipse Thank You Card (and a few other samples)

To do the eclipse technique, die cut shape(s) are cut out of the decorated or printed panel and reattached after being layered/raised up so you have a continuous pattern across the whole card.  I smooshed the background with ink and water and then partially stenciled a pattern which was darker/complete in the upper left corner and “trailed off” as I moved towards the lower right.  The pattern on the portion of the card where I die cut my “thanks” is subtle, but you can see how the drops and splotches of color continue onto the raised letters.  (I cut and layered four plain white die cuts under the patterned one to raise it up.  You could also use a piece of fun foam.)

For the next two cards, I used patterned paper.

Both of these panels were made from different parts of a sheet of  “Thoreau Flowers” (#505802) paper by Recollections.  The  “In A Word: Thanks Cutaway” die (#WW031CA) from Winnie & Walter is perfect for this technique.  The butterfly die was unbranded.

Goodbye Sassy Cheryl’s – Snowman Wiper Card (and some other sites to find digital stamps)

Happy New Year!

Digital stamps are images you download and print from your computer to use on your cards/projects.  You can color them (just like with traditional line art image stamps), but since they are digital, you can also size them to suit your needs.

The snowman on the wiper card above is a digital image from an online shop called Sassy Cheryl’s (that, sadly, just closed down).  What I loved about the images on that site (besides that I thought they were adorable) is that most were also available as pre-colored illustrations so if you didn’t want to color the images yourself, you could just print them in color and use them as is.  The image used on the card above is the pre-colored version of “Fa-la-la-la Snowman” and was “traced and cut” with my Silhouette electronic die cutting machine.  And while this site is no longer operational, there are lots of other companies/shops that offer digital stamps (some pre-colored).

Etsy is a great place to begin looking.

Here are some other sites to check out:

The digital paper I used is called “Snowflake Background – Snowy Paper” by SBdigitalDesigns from Etsy.  The “Festive Mini Expressions – Warmest Wishes” die from Creative Expressions was used for the pop-up greeting.

The following sample (previously posted here) shows how the wiper element works on my snowman card above and features another of Sassy Cheryl’s designs called Once Upon a Star Santa.

I colored this image myself and used a reindeer image from the “Reindeer” stamp and die cut set (#657780) from Hero Arts/Sizzix (retired) in place of the star in the original design.

Tea Bag Fold Birthday Card

Tea Bag Fold Birthday Card

Tea Bag Fold Birthday Card wDSC_3059.JPG

I was recently asked if there were ways to use the tea bag fold panels for a design other than for a Christmas tree, and this is one variation I came up with.

Paper used on this card is Snowflake Mix (#712257), Wooden Fence (#154484), and Textured Cream Sheet Music (#142950) which are all by The Paper Studio.  The card base is Recollections heavy weight ivory.  The greeting is a stamp from the “Banners” set from Joy! Crafts.  Last year, I made a holiday card using the same papers.

CAS Hanukkah Card

CAS Hanukkah Card

This is a Clean and REALLY Simple card.  Maybe too simple???

I saw this “Happy Hanukkah” stamp set from Lawn Fawn and really liked the whimsical menorah image.  Are we allowed to just stamp an image and a greeting and then mat it and call it done?  LOL!!  I needed to make a bunch of these to hold gift cards/monetary gifts, and my MISTI made it a breeze.

The mat and ink are both Gina K Designs Blue Denim, but as often happens, my blue paper and ink look different in photos but the same in real life.  Hmmm…
