Nativity Ornament Card

Wow, December really flew by!! I’m now just getting around to photographing and posting some of the projects I completed in November and December.

This Christmas card features a Silhouette cut file (Nativity Ornament Tag #70877) by Sophie Gallo, and digital paper from a set called “Craft and Silver Christmas” by POandPOdigital which I purchased HERE on Etsy.

I needed to simplify the star on the ornament since my machine was having a little trouble cutting the original design. The ornament and the frame (created with my Silhouette) were cut from paper from the Recollections Shimmer Silver and Champagne Card Stock pack from Michaels. (I used the one called champagne, I think. The silver in this pack is not your typical silver, and the two shades are very close.) These were adhered to the digital paper I printed on plain white card stock. The card base is Recollections ivory card stock. The ribbon and the rhinestone brad were also purchased at Michaels. The sentiment on the inside was computer generated.

Layered Hanukkah Card

Layered Hanukkah Card

This layered card features printed shimmer card stock (and mats) from a Recollections pack called “Christmas – Holiday Printed Paper” which I picked up after the holidays last year. The pack contains 3 different 8 1/2 x 11 inch shimmer prints and 2 solid, matte colors. (The patterns are not really very “Christmas-y. In fact, the sales clerk almost didn’t give me the post-holiday clearance price because she didn’t think it qualified until I pointed out the title of the pack!) The shimmer on this card stock is so subtle and beautiful in real life.

The greeting stamp on the front is by craftsmart which I also found at Michaels. The sentiment on the inside is called “Hanukkah Saying” (item: H-19716) from Rubber Hedgehog Rubber Stamps.

The center panel is popped up with foam tape. The ribbon is half sheer and half satin with an iridescent thread across the center.

I went back and forth on whether this card stock was appropriate for a Hanukkah card, but I thought it seemed to go so well with the elegant font of the greeting stamp.

Especially for You – Golf Themed Birthday Card

(inside: hope your day is as fun as getting a hole-in-one! happy birthday)

For those of you who are not all that fond of golf – Ugh, another golf card! For those of you who are neutral or who are into golf, here’s another golf themed birthday card I made for the Rolling Green Holiday Boutique. (Just a little over a month more and then I can start making “regular” cards again!!!)

This 5×7 card features a large stamp called “Fairway to Heaven” from Indigo Blue. I used my MISTI and stamped it multiple times to get a nice solid, dark image. The greeting stamp is from the “Especially for You Duo” stamp set (retired?) from Gina K Designs. These images were stamped with Gina K Charcoal Brown ink.

I used an EK 2 Point Tag Punch to create the end of my greeting tag and my Marvy Paper Crimper for the vertical band.

Inside sentiment stamps are from the “Ed and Ethyl” page at Copper Leaf Creations and the “Birthday Blessings” from Gina K Designs.

Gina K Honey Mustard and Sweet Corn card stock and Recollections Ivory card stock were used along with GCD Studios “Thru the Woods” designer paper from the “Joyful Peace” collection.

The edges of all 9 layers/panels were inked with Gina K Charcoal Brown ink. A piece of yarn behind the corner of the greeting tag finished it off.

Celebrate – Golf Themed Birthday Card

This 5×7 card features a photo stamp called “Golfer” from Darkroom Door. I used my MISTI and stamped it multiple times to get a nice solid, dark image. The greeting stamp is from the “Vertical Greetings 2” stamp set from Gina K Designs. (I needed to mask the exclamation point from the stamp because it was too long for the space on my panel.) These images were stamped with Gina K Charcoal Brown ink. I used my Tim Holtz Paper Distresser to rough up the edges of the stamped panel to match the jagged border of the golf image.

Inside sentiment stamps are from the retired “And Many Mower” stamp set from Stampin’ Up (that I found on ebay) and the “You Know You’re Old When…” set (retired?) from Gina K Designs.

Gina K Charcoal Brown and Recollections Ivory card stock was used along with designer paper by Hampton Art called “Numbers” from the “Vintage Charm” collection. A piece of chocolate colored raffia finished it off.

Holiday Accent Lamp

Holiday Accent Lamp

I thought I’d take a quick break from golf cards to make this Tiffany-inspired lamp project which I’ve been wanting to try for a while. It was made with my Silhouette electronic die cutting machine, an svg file from the “Boho Butterflies SVG Kit” by svg cuts, an electric candle, card stock and vellum. The original design had dragonflies on the lamp shade, but I wanted to make my lamps as holiday gifts and decorations, so I altered the cut file to include holly leaves instead. The basic holly leaf design (which I manipulated to fit on the lamp shade panel) came from the “Comet’s Candy Land SVG Kit” which is also by svg cuts.

It’s hard to believe this lamp is made out of paper! I used Recollections brown (chocolate) shimmer paper (which looks like bronze/metal), Recollections black card stock, and vellum. I used Copic Markers (G29, R59, and Y28) to color the vellum panels.

*POST ADDITION – I found it tedious and difficult to color 36 panels, front and back, for each lamp I wanted to make. The vellum kept shifting so the colors didn’t line up with the black lines perfectly, and this was messy/obvious when the lamp was assembled and lit. (I’m not sure why I didn’t have that much trouble with my first one!) I ended up creating two print and cut files so I could either color in my panels by hand with lines visible on the vellum, or I could just print and cut the already colored panels. Much easier!!

There is a 9 inch electronic candle “built in” to the center of the lamp base which came with a 7w bulb. I replaced this bulb with an LED bulb so it didn’t get hot since it will be lit so close to the paper. (The original bulb seemed to work fine and didn’t really seem to get that hot, but I didn’t want to take any chances.)

I used the Darice 5×7 Basketweave embossing folder for the decorative panels on the base of the lamp.

The design details on this lamp are incredible! The lamp shade fits on the lamp without touching the bulb. And the decorative knob on the top is pretty cool!

Some sad news…

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I LOVE svg cuts; there is a huge variety of projects (2-d and 3-d), and they are all AWESOME!!! It’s the first place I look when I need an idea or element for a special occasion or project. I LOVE watching Mary do her project tutorials which takes a lot of the frustration out of creating these projects. (I tried to wing it a few times and ended up wishing I had just gone straight to Mary for some of the more complicated designs!) And, I don’t think I’d even have any idea at all about electronic die-cutting with svg’s if it weren’t for Leo’s tutorials on Sure Cuts A Lot and all the customer support/questions answered by him over the years. So… I was extremely saddened by the news that Leo and Mary are going their separate ways and will no longer both be working together at svg cuts. Leo has decided to start a new svg company called Dreaming Tree (3DSVG) while Mary will continue to run svg cuts. (Leo explains this in a letter on his new site, HERE). I’m sad for them that things didn’t work out, and I’m sad that the company as I’ve known it will not be the same. However, I am excited with the idea that there is a new company out there that will be providing svg files, am hoping this works out well for both of them, and am looking forward to visiting both often.
