Coastal Quilt Valentine’s Day Card

Coastal style decor is a loose term to describe airy and casual seaside-style interiors and sea- and beach-inspired decorative elements. Think seashells, sand, nautical stripes and weathered wood (from the Style at Home’s design dictionary). I used these elements and colors on my Valentine’s Day card (5×7).

The quilt was made using a die called “Quilt Stitched 4×4 Panel Die #1” by Gina Marie Designs and with digital paper I purchased from Etsy. The kraft colored paper with the hearts is from a set called “Old Paper Love” by DigiTalesArt, and the shell and turquoise papers are from the “Coastal Cottage Papers 1” set by Tammy DeYoung Designs from the songinmyheart shop. I used the dropper tool from my Silhouette software to create the solid colored sheets by “picking up” spots of colors from the patterns.

The hearts in the center of the quilt were cut with the “Nesting Hearts (#100384)” dies by Little B. The nautical elements were cut from dies from the “Nautical Frame and Accents (S5-082)” set by Spellbinders.

The greeting is a stamp from the “Gifts from the Sea” set by Gina K Designs and was stamped with Gina K Charcoal Brown ink. A little twist of twine finished it off.

For this week’s “From the Heart” Mod Squad Challenge, we are encouraged to create a project using hearts. (Sadly, this site is no longer active.) I was excited when I found the kraft colored digital paper with the hearts because it looked like sand and went perfectly with the colors from the other set. I particularly loved the hearts with the “rays” around them; they looked like little suns to me!

The MIUM Challenge over at StampTV this week is to use Kraft cardstock somewhere on our project. ~~Check out the gallery of projects submitted HERE.~~ (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)

Over at Die Cut Diva’s, the challenge this month is “Love, Marriage & Anniversaries.” A die cut or file cut made on your machine (not store bought) must be used on your project or card.

Baby Girl Hearts

Baby Girl Hearts

For this week’s “From the Heart” Mod Squad Challenge, we are encouraged to create a project using hearts. (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)

I found these gorgeous stitched heart dies called “Nesting Hearts (#100384)” by Little B, and couldn’t wait to play with them! In addition to the heart dies, I also used a die from the “Stitched Rectangle Dies” set by Gina Marie Designs. I used watercolor paper because I liked the texture along with Gina K Innocent Pink card stock.

The greeting is from the “Bundle of Love” set (retired?) by Gina K Designs and was stamped with versamark ink and heat embossed with Recollections Snow embossing powder. The background patten was created with a Stampin’ Up large background stamp called “Soft Swirls” and Gina K Innocent Pink ink.

I used my buttonhole hole punch to pierce the small pink heart and then added the ribbon, although it’s hard to see the holes in the photo.

I used this adorable “Sweet Baby Elephant (cc-mini-163)” die by Cottage Cutz along with a stitched heart die from the “Nesting Hearts (#100384)” set by Little B. For the background panel, I used the Darice “Quilt Blocks (#1219-131)” embossing folder. I used watercolor paper because I liked the texture along with Gina K Powder Blue card stock.

The greeting is from the “Bundle of Love” set (retired?) by Gina K Designs and was stamped with Gina K Powder Blue ink.

Snowflake Thank You Card

Snowflake Thank You Card

This seemingly simple card design was a real bugger to make! I heat embossed the snowflakes on acetate, and no matter how “clean” the stamped image looked, there were always flecks of embossing powder visible AFTER the heat was applied! I don’t know if the heat tool was blowing tiny flecks around while heating or if the flecks were so small and were there but not visible until after they were heated, but I could not get a perfectly clean panel to use! My daughter said it just looked like snow and was fine. Ugh!!! Anyway…

Gina K Kraft card stock was used along with thick, heat resistant acetate. (I originally tried it with overhead transparency paper, and it melted as soon as the heat was applied!) The images were all heat embossed with Versamark ink and Recollections Snow embossing powder. The stamps were from the “Christmas Wishes” set, the “Triple Play Frame” set, and the “Massive Messages” set, all by Gina K Designs.

I used my Silhouette to cut the circles on the top layer and on the card base, and I used my MISTI to line up the frame stamp. The acetate was sandwiched between these layers.

Below is a photo that better shows the snowflakes on the acetate. The circles look really dark at the angle in the photo above, but they are clear.

Before making the version with the acetate, I made the one below with the snowflakes stamped on the card stock.

The embossing powder behaved much better on this version, and the detail of the snowflakes was better on the card stock than on the acetate.

Party Penguins

Party Penguins

This card features the adorable Party Penguins stamp by Great Impressions. It was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with Copic Markers (BG15, R14, YR04, and YG63). The greeting is from a set called “Happy Birthday to You” by Gina K Designs. The white cardstock was cut with a die from the Spellbinders “Pierced Rectangles” set (#SCD-012) and mounted on Gina K Designs Jelly Bean Green and a sheet from the GKD “Made With Love” patterned paper pack.

My triplets turned 17 today. According to the Motion Picture Association, they can now see “R” rated movies without supervision, and according the the state of New Jersey, they can now get their drivers’ licenses. They are juniors in high school and will be applying to colleges soon. I can’t believe how quickly they have grown, but luckily, they are still fun-loving and young at heart, and we still get to enjoy them being “kids” a little longer! I made this card for Kelly (she loves penguins) and the cards in my previous two posts for the boys. (The monkey card was for Keith, and the elephant card was for Kevin.) I immediately thought of each of them when I saw these stamps, and they loved the cards. Even as teens in high school and as young adults, I guess they are still enjoying their “inner kid” too!!
