Quilled Iris

Quilled Iris

w Quilled Iris DSCN8105

It had been a while since I had done any quilling, so I thought I’d make a quilled card to enter in this week’s Mod Squad Challenge called “Spring Forward” where we are encouraged to use flowers, birds, butterflies, hummingbirds, etc. and bright, beautiful colors to make a Spring themed card.  (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)

I sponged Gina K Wild Lilac ink on white card stock and glued my quilled iris and decorative swirls on this panel.  Then, I created a recessed frame with thick fun foam and Spellbinders oval dies.

The printed paper is from a digital set I bought from a store on Etsy called The Pixel Posy. The set is called “Vintage William Morris digital paper designs//Art Nouveau background paper pack//Blue and purple flower digital paper.”   HERE is the link.

This card used a number of quilled shapes:  teardrops, half circles, marquises and wheatears (leaves).  I used instructions by “Quilled Creations” to create the iris.

I had made a few other quilled cards in the past that I had posted in my StampTV Gallery.  (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)  I’m including them here as well.

Quilled Sympathy Card DSCN5557

This sympathy card was the first one I did back in May 2013.  I used a basic marquise shape for the flowers and leaves.  The sentiment was from the Gina K Designs “All Occasion Tags” Stamp set.  The tag was cut with a die from the Spellbinders Grommet Tag set, and the embossing folder is Darice Corner Scroll.

I used the same embossing folder and marquise shapes to create two more – a wedding card and a confirmation card.

The sentiment on the wedding card is from the Gina K Designs “Always and Forever” duo stamp set.  I purchased the stamp for the confirmation card on Ebay, and it is unmarked so I have no idea what company made it.

The next card I made was for a bridal shower.  I used teardrops to make the umbrella.

The bride and groom stamp is called “Happy Couple” by Stampendous!  The greeting was done on the computer.  I used the Darice Stripe embossing folder on this card.

Quilled Creations makes a great tool called “Circle Template Board” that makes it easy to create consistent and perfectly proportioned quilled shapes. I also use their slotted quilling tool to roll the circles; the slot makes it easy to get the paper rolls started.

I forgot how much I LOVE quilled designs; I will definitely need to do this more often!!

Decorating the Tree

Decorating the Tree

Decorating the Tree DSCN6521

This card is being entered in the Mod Squad Challenge – Frosty the Snowman – where the theme is snowmen. (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)

This card is also being entered in the Perfectly Rustics Design Challenge No. 37 – Sentiment (Not Birthday). The focus of this challenge is the sentiment on the card, but NO HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiments are to be used in this challenge!  They want us to think outside of the standard (most commonly used sentiment) and come up with something different than Happy Birthday. The “Merry and Bright” sentiment was chosen to go with the festive lights for the tree. (http://perfectlyrustics.com/2014/12/01/prdc-37-sentiment-not-birthday/)

This card is also being entered in the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge – Christmas/Holidays – where we are to create a holiday themed project.  (http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/wednesdaychallenge/simon-says-christmas/)

The stamps used for this project were from the Gina K Designs “Winter Cheer” and “Christmas Joy” stamp sets.  The card base is Gina K kraft, and the green is from the My Mind’s Eye “Signature Christmas” 6×6 designer paper pad.  The printed card stock was from the DCWV “Storybook Christmas” 6×6 paper stack.  I stamped the snowmen images on the printed background panel with Memento tuxedo black ink.  I also stamped the snowmen onto white card stock , colored them with Copic Markers R89, Y17, YR18, C1 and T2 and went over their bodies with a clear Wink of Stella glitter pen (which you can’t really see in the photo).  I then cut them out and adhered them to the background paper directly over the other stamped images.  (Since I had stamped the snowmen directly on the background panel, I didn’t need to worry about cutting around their thin arms.)  The tree is a Silhouette element called “Echo Park Christmas Tree” by Echo Park (design id # 17363).  The string of mini “lights” was from AC Moore, with the decorations for the mini Christmas trees.  The greeting was stamped with versamark ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder.  The edges of the brown and green card stock were all inked with Gina K dark chocolate ink.

Pleated Snowman

Pleated Snowman

Pleated Snowman DSCN6588

This card is being entered in the Mod Squad Challenge – Frosty the Snowman – where the theme is snowmen.   (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)

All the printed paper for this card came from the My Mind’s Eys “Signature Christmas” 6×6 designer paper pad, and the card base was Gina K moonlit fog.  The greeting stamp was from the Gina K Designs “Peace and Joy” set and was stamped with Gina K moonlit fog ink.

To make the pleated panel for his head, I scored (and scored and scored!) a long strip of card stock and then folded it back and forth like a fan.  Once the strip was folded, I glued the ends together (which looked like a tube or cylinder at this point).  Then I gently flattened it which formed the shape you see on the card.  I glued that onto the card base behind the top panel with the circle cut-out.  (The strip I started with had a width that was a little more than 1/2 the size of my circle cut-out or a little more than the radius of the circle.  For example, if the circle is 2 inches across, you want the strip to be a little more than 1 inch wide.  My strip was 12 inches long which I made by gluing two 6 inch strips together.  The longer the strip’s length, the tighter your pleats will be when it is flattened.)  I adhered the top panel to the card base with several layers of foam tape around the all the edges  (enough so the top panel could lie flat over the pleated panel).

The hat, scarf and frame around the circle were cut with my Silhouette.  The piece containing the greeting was stamped on the circle scrap that was cut out of the card front.  Originally, I intended to cut a rectangular panel, got the top and bottom trimmed, and realized it looked like it could be the top of his body, so I hand-cut a mat and used it that way.

Cloth Tree and Snowman Card

Cloth Tree Card

This card is being entered in the Mod Squad Challenge – Frosty the Snowman – where the theme is snowmen.   (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)

This card is also being entered in the Perfectly Rustics Design Challenge No. 37 – Sentiment (Not Birthday). The focus of this challenge is the sentiment on the card, but NO HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiments are to be used in this challenge!  They want us to think outside of the standard (most commonly used sentiment) and come up with something different than Happy Birthday.  The “Warm Winter Wishes” sentiment was chosen to go with the “warm” fabrics for the tree, scarf and hat. (http://perfectlyrustics.com/2014/12/01/prdc-37-sentiment-not-birthday/)

This card is also being entered in the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge – Christmas/Holidays – where we are to create a holiday themed project.  (http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/wednesdaychallenge/simon-says-christmas/)

The snowman on this card was hand-cut from a piece of corrugated cardstock and inked with Gina K dark chocolate.  The hat and scarf were hand-cut from a piece of burlap ribbon, a small bell was added to the end of the hat, and mini button brads were used for the eyes.

To make the tree, I first airbrushed a craft stick with Copic Marker E59.  Then I cut plaid fabric in strips, tied them to the stick, and trimmed them to resemble a tree shape.  I cut a piece of burlap for the bag at the base of the tree and added a piece of twine.  A star (used to make jewelry) was adhered to the top.

I used Gina K dark chocolate card stock, and the patterned card stock is from the DCWV “The Storybook Christmas” stack.

The stamp for the greeting is from the Stampin’ Up “Warm Winter Wishes” set and was stamped with Gina K dark chocolate ink.  The matted panel was adhered to a piece of burlap.

Rockin’ Santa

Rockin’ Santa

Rockin' Santa rDSCN6190.jpg

This card is being entered in this week’s Mod Squad Challenge – The Music of Christmas – where we are to use music on our card.   (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)

It is also being entered in the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge – Holiday Cards – where they are encouraging us to show them our homemade holiday goodness this week. While they are focusing on holiday cards, they welcome us to share whatever we may be making and giving this holiday season! (http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/mondaychallenge/?p=2246)

This card is also being entered in the Perfectly Rustics Design Challenge No. 37 – Sentiment (Not Birthday). The focus of this challenge is the sentiment on the card, but NO HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiments are to be used in this challenge!  They want us to think outside of the standard (most commonly used sentiment) and come up with something different.  My card has “Merry Christmas” as the sentiment. (http://perfectlyrustics.com/2014/12/01/prdc-37-sentiment-not-birthday/)s made for my daughter’s drum teacher.

The Santa was cut using my Cricut and the “Jolly Holidays” cartridge.  The drum set is from the “Quarter Note” cartridge.  I used Gina K sandy beach and dark chocolate card stock for the card base and mats.  The music notes printed paper is from the Recollections “Union Square” paper pad.  The red and green printed paper is from my scrap box and I don’t remember who made it.  (I got it at AC Moore a few years ago.)  The metalic paper for the drum set is Recollections (bronze) shimmer card stock, and Santa was made with Gina K cranberry tart, ivory, sandy beach, and a hunter green from my scrap box.  I stamped the Merry Christmas greeting on a scrap of the background green paper using a stamp from the Gina K Designs “Peace and Joy” set and charcoal brown ink.

I was pretty excited to make this card because I used a few Cricut cartridges that I haven’t used in a long time, and I also made use of some of the scraps that I keep and usually forget about!
