Fun Daisies

Fun Daisies

Recently, a friend of mine wanted to give card making a try. She found a few cards online that she liked and asked if I could show her how to make something like them.  This is my version of one of those cards.

Here’s the card I CASED:

(from: Better Homes and Gardens, March 10, 2016)

The original sample was adorable the way it was laid out, but if you are at all familiar with my style, you know I wouldn’t be able to glue my pieces down so randomly or crookedly … LOL!!  Also, the flowers on the sample were real daisies that were dried and pressed.  I used die cut flowers instead.

I played around with different stems, grass and the yellow central florets.  Here are two more versions.

I couldn’t find the paper or ribbon used on the sample so I improvised.  The paper is from the “Pinks & Corals” pad by Craft Smith.  The paper has a white core so I was able to sand and scrape it up a bit.  I also rubbed white Gesso on the surface with a paper towel.  I was afraid to use too much, and now I feel like there is not enough white.  Next time…

For the stems, I used Recollections Jute Twine or white Darice Paper Rope.  The leaves are Celebrate It Swiss Dot ribbon from Michaels.  For the central florets, I used buttons from a mixed bag I purchased online or “You Had Me At Yellow” mini prills.

The daisies were cut with dies by Whitelotous.  The grass is Gina K Grass Green card stock or a scrap of printed paper from my stash (not sure which paper pad it came from).  Whaline Green and Celebrate It White raffia were also used.

The greeting is from the “Nurturing Blooms” set by Gina K Designs and was heat embossed with Ranger White embossing powder and versamark ink.  (You can see the shine a little better on the second sample.)

(inside:  Happy Valentine’s Day)

I saw this patterned paper by American Crafts (#320318) and fell in love with it!  I matted it on Gina K Edible Eggplant and a white card base.  I added a piece of Offray Ribbon, squares of the Edible Eggplant and white card stock cut with dies from the “Stitched Squares” set by Gina Marie Designs, and a heart cut from a scrap of the patterned paper and the smallest heart from the “Nellie’s Choice Multi Frame, Hearts” die set by Ecstasy Crafts (#MF0060).  Quick and easy!

(Inside:  May you be blessed with the gifts He gave us – Hope, Peace and Love today and every day.  Happy Easter)

The stamps used on this CAS card are “Easter Lily and Crosses Oval” (#234KU), “1 Line Easter Blessings” (#W1029DU), and “Blessed With Gifts” (#970GU) from DRS Designs.  The images were stamped with versamark ink and heat embossed with Gina K Fine Detail Gold embossing powder.  I swiped the edges of my mat panel with versamark and embossed that as well.  Gina K base weight Ivory card stock and Edible Eggplant were also used.

Hoppy Easter Z-Fold Card

Hoppy Easter Z-Fold Card

This z-fold card features stamps from the “Bunny Hop” stamp set by Newton’s Nook Designs.  The images were stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on water color paper (I love the texture!) and colored with Copic Markers (Y15, YG03, R85, C0, Bv20/R81, and 0).

A Tim Holtz Dusty Concord distress marker and the Tim Holtz marker spritzer tool were used to add the speckles to the two stamped panels.

Recollections Yellow Grey Plaid paper and a piece of the grey from the Recollections Coffee and Cream heavy weight card stock pack were added to the water color paper card base.

The card base was created by scoring an 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch panel at the 4 1/4 and 2 1/8 inch marks (in half and one side in half again).  Fold the card base in half, and fold the top half back on the scored line creating a Z.

I created my inside panel the same size as my front panel and lined it up directly under the front panel so it is completely hidden when the card is closed.

Currently, the Mod Squad Challenge is “ready for spring” where we are encouraged to “make a Spring themed card with flowers, bunnies, pastels…anything Spring.”  (Sadly, this site is no longer active.)

This CAS card features the adorable bunny image and greeting from the Gina K Designs “Spring Fling” stamp set, stamped with Stampin’ Up Blackberry Bliss ink.  Gina K Edible Eggplant and white card stock was used along with Melissa Frances “Betty-Ann” patterned paper.  The focal image was cut with a die from the Gina Marie Stitched Rectangles die set.

The inside sentiment is from the Stampin’ Up “Sayings and Such” stamp set.
